Is TimeBinder legit? The short answer
Yes, TimeBinder is a real Australian business, and you don’t have to take our word for it. Its founders are named, and its ABN, 95783170741, is in its terms and on the government’s public ABN Lookup. TimeBinder is based in Brisbane. Card payments go through Stripe, and the Free plan needs no credit card. You can also check how it works without trusting us: re-hash your file in your browser and compare fingerprints, or look up an ASAP TimeBind’s transaction on the public Bitcoin blockchain. Pooled TimeBinds are checked through TimeBinder. Be clear about what any TimeBind shows: that a file existed no later than a recorded time and still matches its fingerprint. It doesn’t show who created the file. Here’s how to check each of these points yourself.

What is TimeBinder? TimeBinder is a blockchain timestamping service. It shows that a digital file existed no later than a specific time, and that it still matches its fingerprint, by anchoring the file’s SHA-256 fingerprint to the Bitcoin blockchain. Files are hashed in your browser and never uploaded, and each TimeBind comes with a Proof of Time Certificate that can be checked later. It does not prove who created a file or that its contents are true.
Is TimeBinder legit? Who runs it
TimeBinder was founded by Inna Hall, an Australian lawyer, and James Butt, a software engineer with over 25 years of experience. Our About us page says Inna was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland and High Court of Australia in 2013. Inna and James also created LawTram.com.au.
Check the business on the public record:
- Open the Australian Business Register’s ABN Lookup at abr.business.gov.au.
- Search for 95783170741, the ABN given in our terms and conditions.
- Under business names, you’ll see TimeBinder, registered from 14 October 2025. The ABN is active, and the main business location is Queensland.
Our terms “are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia.”
Where your files go
They don’t go anywhere. Your browser calculates a SHA-256 hash for each file: a short code calculated from the file’s exact contents. Only that hash is recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain. TimeBinder never uploads or stores your files.
You can see this for yourself. Our free SHA-256 file hash checker shows a file’s fingerprint in your browser. Change the file and the code changes. That’s the same check the TimeBinder verifier runs.
Our privacy policy explains what we do collect and use, including website analytics through Google Analytics.
How to check a TimeBind without trusting us
There are two kinds of TimeBind, and they’re checked differently:
- Pooled (1 Token). Your fingerprint is grouped with other users’ in one shared Bitcoin entry, usually recorded within 24 to 48 hours, and often sooner, depending on Bitcoin network activity. It’s checked through TimeBinder. The Free plan’s monthly Token covers one Pooled TimeBind.
- ASAP (3 Tokens). It gets its own Bitcoin transaction, sent straight away. It can be checked independently with the certificate and the Bitcoin blockchain, without relying on TimeBinder.
For any TimeBind: scan the QR code on the certificate, or open the verifier, and drop in the file. Your browser recalculates the fingerprint locally. The result is either “Verified” or “Verification Failed”. You need the exact original file: a re-saved or edited copy has a different fingerprint.
For an ASAP TimeBind, without us: the certificate includes the Bitcoin transaction ID. Look that transaction up in any public Bitcoin block explorer to see when it was recorded, and use the certificate’s data to check that your file’s fingerprint links to it. Nothing in that check depends on TimeBinder’s servers.
For a Pooled TimeBind: be aware that it can’t be checked without TimeBinder, because we supply the proof linking your fingerprint to the shared Bitcoin entry. If the record must stand without us, choose ASAP. See ASAP vs Pooled verification and how it works.

What TimeBinder doesn’t claim
We’d rather you knew the limits up front.
What a TimeBind does NOT do
A TimeBind doesn’t show who created a file, whether its contents are true, or whether the work is original. It doesn’t register copyright, and it doesn’t stop anyone copying your work. How a court or other decision-maker treats it depends on the jurisdiction and the rules that apply.
TimeBinder also isn’t a law firm, and nothing on our site is legal advice.
This is general information, not legal advice. For advice about your situation, speak to a lawyer in your country.
When TimeBinder isn’t the right tool
- You need an EU qualified electronic time stamp. Use a qualified Time Stamping Authority.
- You want a free, open tool with no account. OpenTimestamps may suit you. See TimeBinder vs OpenTimestamps.
- You need a copyright registration, patent, trade mark or design. A timestamp isn’t any of these.
- You’ll only use Pooled TimeBinds but need a record that can be checked without TimeBinder. Use ASAP.
