Draft Streak: a daily draft log for writers Log today’s word count and file fingerprint, and share your progress card.

Your file never leaves your device. It’s read and fingerprinted right here in your browser. Your log is saved in this browser only. Nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by TimeBinder. If the file is in the cloud, your phone may download it first.

Draft Streak is a free tool made by Inna Hall at TimeBinder, in Brisbane.

Writing a novel this November? Drop in today’s manuscript file. Draft Streak counts the words, makes a SHA-256 fingerprint of the file on your device, and adds it to a dated log in your browser. Day by day, that becomes a record of your process, a trail you can show if anyone asks how your book came together.

A reminder: the dates in this log come from your device’s clock, so on their own they aren’t a timestamp. To get a recorded time that someone else can check, TimeBind the same files.

Why keep a daily draft log?

Short answer: because a book is written over weeks, and your drafts show it. If a reader, prize or publisher ever asks whether you wrote your book with AI, a dated trail of drafts, word counts and fingerprints is a calm way to show how the work developed. It’s a dated record of your process, not a verdict on who wrote the words or how. It helps most when you keep each day’s file and TimeBind some of them along the way.

What is TimeBinder? TimeBinder is a blockchain timestamping service. It shows that a digital file existed no later than a specific time, and that it still matches its fingerprint, by anchoring the file’s SHA-256 fingerprint to the Bitcoin blockchain. Files are hashed in your browser and never uploaded, and each TimeBind comes with a Proof of Time Certificate that can be checked later. It doesn’t show who created a file or that its contents are true.

How Draft Streak works

Three steps, each day you write.

  1. Drop today’s file

Your manuscript, any day you write. Word counts for .docx, .odt, .txt and .md.

    novel-2026-11-09.docx
  2. Fingerprint on your device

Your browser works out the file’s SHA-256 fingerprint and counts the words. Nothing is uploaded.

fingerprint 3f9a1c…07c1 · file stays with you
  3. Save and share

The entry goes into your browser’s log, and you get a progress card to post. Export the log whenever you like.

How to get a recorded time for your drafts

Your log is your own record. For a time that someone else can check, TimeBind the files that matter.

  1. Keep the day’s file

Save a copy with the date in its name, such as novel-2026-11-09.docx.

    novel-2026-11-09.docx
  2. TimeBind it

Open the TimeBinder app and add the same file. It’s hashed on your device, and only the fingerprint is recorded.

    same file · same fingerprint
  3. Keep the certificate with your log

You get a Proof of Time Certificate showing the file existed no later than the recorded time. Later, anyone you choose can check that the file still matches its fingerprint.

What your log and a TimeBind do, and don’t, show

Your Draft Streak log shows

  • The word counts and fingerprints you saved
  • Dates from your own device’s clock, which can be changed

A TimeBind shows

  • That this exact file existed no later than the time recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain
  • That a file you show later still matches its fingerprint

Neither shows

  • Who created, wrote or signed the file
  • Whether AI was used to make it
  • Whether anyone will accept it. How a publisher, platform or court treats it is up to them, and this isn’t legal advice

Draft Streak: FAQ

Is my manuscript uploaded?

No. Your file is read by your own browser, and the word count and SHA-256 fingerprint are worked out on your device. Nothing is sent to TimeBinder or anyone else, and the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

Where is my log saved?

In this browser only, using its local storage. It doesn’t sync between devices, and clearing your browser data or using a private window can delete it. Use Export log to keep a CSV or JSON copy with your drafts, and Import log to restore it.

Is my Draft Streak log a timestamp?

Not on its own. The dates come from your device’s clock, which can be changed. To get a recorded time that others can check, TimeBind the same files. A TimeBind shows that the exact file existed no later than the recorded time, and later that a file still matches its fingerprint.

Can a draft log help if I’m accused of using AI?

It can help you show your process. Dated drafts, word counts and fingerprints are a trail you can show to a publisher, prize or reader. They don’t show who wrote the words or whether AI was used, and no one is obliged to accept them, so keep your actual draft files too. See how to keep a dated draft history.

Why is the word count different from Word or Scrivener?

Every app counts slightly differently, for example with hyphens, numbers and dashes. Draft Streak counts the main text of .docx, .odt, .txt and .md files, and leaves out comments, footnotes and headers. For other file types you can type in the count from your writing app.

What is a file fingerprint?

A SHA-256 hash: a 64-character code worked out from every byte of the file. The same file always gives the same fingerprint, and changing one character gives a completely different one. You can check a saved file against its fingerprint later with the SHA-256 file hash checker.

Keep the trail going

Log a draft each day you write, export your log every week, and TimeBind the files that matter, for example the first chapter, the halfway draft and the manuscript you submit.

Your drafts stay privateDraft Streak and the TimeBinder app both hash files on your own device. Your manuscript is never uploaded or stored by TimeBinder.
