Proof of Creation for Writers and Authors

Writers share work long before it is published: with agents, publishers, competitions, writing groups and beta readers. If a similar plot, article or script appears elsewhere, the question is simple and often hard to answer: what did you have, and when?

TimeBinder records independent proof of when each draft existed on the Bitcoin blockchain, without uploading your words anywhere.

What writers TimeBind

  • Manuscripts and each major draft
  • Outlines, treatments and pitch documents
  • Scripts and screenplays before submission
  • Articles, research notes and interview recordings
  • Submission emails and covering letters, saved as PDF

How it works

  1. Choose up to 10 files. Any file type and size works.
  2. Your browser calculates each file’s SHA-256 fingerprint. The files themselves are never uploaded, so unreleased work stays on your device.
  3. Choose Pooled (batched with other TimeBinds, usually recorded within about 24–36 hours) or ASAP (your own Bitcoin transaction, broadcast straight away and verifiable without TimeBinder).
  4. Download your Proof of Time Certificate, a PDF with a QR code and the Bitcoin transaction ID.
  5. Keep your original files unchanged. Anyone you share access with can later re-check a file against the record in their browser.

A simple habit

TimeBind your manuscript before each submission round. It takes a minute, and you will have a dated, unchanged record of exactly what you sent. Keep the original files exactly as they were: even a re-save can change a file’s fingerprint.

What a TimeBind proves, and what it does not. A TimeBind proves that your file existed no later than the time it was recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain, and that it has not changed since. It does not prove who created the file, that its contents are true, or that a court will admit it. It is independent evidence of timing to use alongside your other records, and it is not legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is my manuscript protected without registration?

In Australia, copyright in an original manuscript arises automatically; there is no registration system. A TimeBind adds independent evidence of when your draft existed.

Is this better than emailing the manuscript to myself?

It is more independent. An email’s date depends on the provider’s records and can be disputed. A TimeBind is recorded on the public Bitcoin blockchain and can be checked by anyone you authorise. Read the comparison.

Does TimeBinder read or store my writing?

No. Your browser calculates a fingerprint of each file and only that is recorded. The text never leaves your device.

Does a TimeBind prove I am the author?

No. It proves the file existed by a set time and has not changed. With your drafts and correspondence, that can support your account.
